Amid mounting pressure from rising electricity demand and increasingly complex weather conditions, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has directed relevant agencies and enterprises to vigorously implement measures to ensure adequate electricity supply for socio-economic development.On the morning of June 22, 2026, Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung chaired a working session at the Ministry’s headquarters with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and relevant stakeholders. Photo: Can DungSafe and stable electricity supply maintained in the first half of 2026Reporting at the meeting, EVN President and Chief Executive Officer Nguyen Anh Tuan stated that during the first six months of 2026, EVN successfully ensured a safe and stable electricity supply to support socio-economic development and major political events of the country.Total electricity generation and imports across the national power system were estimated at 171.1 billion kWh, up 9.5% compared to the same period in 2025, while commercial electricity output reached approximately 151.8 billion kWh, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.67%.Against the backdrop of an early and intense heatwave and surging electricity demand, EVN and the National System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO) proactively implemented a wide range of operational measures, flexibly dispatching available power sources, including oil-fired backup generation. These efforts enabled the system to successfully meet record-high electricity loads.On May 27, 2026, the national peak load reached 57,189 MW, the highest level ever recorded. They also proposed solutions to address existing bottlenecks, strengthen energy security, and meet future development requirements.Ensuring adequate electricity supply remains a top priorityAddressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai emphasized that power source development is a long-term undertaking requiring preparation many years in advance. Photo: Can DungRegarding the list of urgent projects to be implemented in the coming period, the Deputy Minister urged state-owned groups and enterprises to carefully select projects, concentrate resources on those that are truly necessary, and maximize investment efficiency.Based on EVN’s report and discussions at the meeting, Minister Le Manh Hung acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts made by EVN and energy-sector enterprises in recent years. Despite domestic difficulties, global uncertainties, and challenges to energy security, the energy sector in general and the power industry in particular have successfully overcome obstacles and fulfilled their assigned responsibilities.The Minister noted that growing energy demand and ambitious economic growth targets present both challenges and opportunities for the sector to continue innovating and developing. However, to meet the socio-economic development requirements of the coming period, particularly the country’s high-growth objectives, the energy sector must intensify its efforts and act with greater determination in carrying out assigned tasks.In this context, ensuring sufficient electricity supply for the economy and people’s daily lives remains EVN’s foremost priority.Accordingly, the Minister instructed EVN to continue working closely with Petrovietnam, TKV, and other relevant entities to ensure an adequate, continuous, and stable supply of fuel inputs, particularly coal and natural gas for electricity generation.At the same time, the Minister requested NSMO to coordinate with power generation companies to optimize maintenance schedules and avoid plant shutdowns during periods of peak heat and high demand. Photo: Can DungRegarding electricity demand management, the Minister called on EVN to direct power utilities to work closely with provincial Departments of Industry and Trade and electricity consumers in implementing energy efficiency programs, demand response initiatives, and load-shifting measures. He also encouraged proactive engagement with the Electricity Authority to formulate and recommend appropriate policy solutions.Alongside immediate measures, the Minister urged EVN to strengthen investment portfolio management and implement projects according to established priorities and planning schedules.For key projects, the Minister assigned relevant departments and agencies under the Ministry to closely monitor implementation progress, identify obstacles, and ensure that bottlenecks are fully resolved. In the transmission sector, he stressed the need to prioritize investment and construction activities to guarantee the timely completion of major grid projects.Regarding the implementation and continued review of the revised National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII), the Minister requested EVN, power generation corporations, project management boards, and related entities to continue evaluating and proposing highly feasible power generation and transmission projects capable of meeting system development requirements at each stage.Highlighting the importance of energy conservation and demand-side management, the Minister stated that these are major priorities that require stronger and more decisive implementation in the period ahead. RISEP: A stepping stone for rural industrial productsAccording to statistics from the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, after six editions of the national Rural Industrial Exemplary Products (RISEP) selection program, approximately 800 rural industrial products nationwide have received the prestigious recognition.More than 80% of nationally recognized RISEP products have benefited from industrial promotion programs through machinery and equipment upgrades, technology application, technical demonstration models, and trade promotion activities.<figure class="image"><img src="https://img-ven.congthuong.vn/resize/th/upload/2026/06/22/z7957788450572c7072b7b9edc7cd973faead4d4d8ed46-14162878.jpg" alt="The company’s unburnt brick and tile products have been exported to international markets."></figure>The company’s unburnt brick and tile products have been exported to international markets.&nbsp;In practice, for many rural industrial enterprises, the RISEP title is not merely recognition of product quality. It also serves as an important passport for strengthening brand identity, expanding markets, enhancing consumer confidence, and building trust with business partners. Nasaki Vietnam Co., Ltd. is a prime example.Established in early 2018, Nasaki Vietnam specializes in manufacturing smart colored bricks and tiles using advanced Japanese green technology. In its initial phase, the company invested more than VND 5 billion in a wet-press roofing tile production line with an average capacity of approximately 50,000 tiles per month.At the time, unburnt colored roofing tiles were still relatively unfamiliar to Vietnamese consumers, particularly in the Northwestern region. Changing traditional preferences for construction materials proved challenging, while the company also faced obstacles related to investment capital, technical workforce development, and market access.Against this backdrop, Chief Executive Officer Nguyen Thi Khuyen and her team gradually overcame these challenges. The company focused on major urban centers in the Northwestern region, targeting projects with high requirements for aesthetics and quality. At the same time, Nasaki prioritized local employment, invested in workforce training, invited specialists to enhance technical skills, and built a team of skilled and professional workers.A notable aspect of Nasaki’s strategy is its commitment to environmentally friendly products such as unburnt bricks and tiles. These products are manufactured from materials derived from the stone powder supply process and do not require kiln firing, thereby reducing emissions and waste generation. Throughout production, the company also emphasizes resource efficiency, material recycling, energy conservation, and sustainable resource utilization.To date, the company has developed nine lines of unburnt roofing tiles, including a Korean-style tile collection featuring intricate details manufactured in Vietnam using non-fired pressing technology. Nasaki products have been supplied to numerous large-scale projects, including developments by Vingroup and Ocean Park. The company is also one of only three manufacturers in Vietnam exporting unburnt bricks and tiles to overseas markets.In 2023, Nasaki’s unburnt colored bricks and tiles were recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade as a national Rural Industrial Exemplary Product. The recognition affirmed the company’s innovation and creativity while providing additional momentum for further quality enhancement and market expansion.From green manufacturing to global expansionFollowing its recognition as a national RISEP product, Nasaki has gained stronger brand positioning, improved competitiveness, and greater opportunities for market expansion. The company currently sells more than one million roofing tiles annually, generates total revenue of VND 21 billion, and provides stable employment for nearly 100 local workers, with average monthly incomes exceeding VND 7 million per person.For a rural industrial enterprise, these achievements reflect not only business efficiency but also tangible contributions to local livelihoods and economic development. It has also successfully exported more than 4,300 flat roofing tiles to Malaysia, with a total contract value exceeding USD 6,000.For CEO Nguyen Thi Khuyen, every export order represents more than commercial success. It is also a source of pride that products made by local workers can enter overseas markets, helping to affirm the value of Vietnamese products and the capabilities of rural industrial enterprises.Nasaki’s experience demonstrates that national RISEP recognition is not an endpoint but rather a foundation for continuous product improvement, workforce development, retail market expansion, participation in major construction projects, and deeper integration into value chains.According to Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, Director General of the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion, RISEP recognition provides substantial benefits for rural industrial establishments. In addition to being authorized to use the program’s logo on their products, recognized enterprises receive priority access to industrial promotion funding, trade promotion activities, and media outreach programs.More importantly, RISEP helps establish product branding and strengthens confidence among consumers and business partners. It serves as a stepping stone for rural industrial products to participate more deeply in value chains, expand domestic market presence, and pursue export opportunities.Experts note that one of the key strengths of the RISEP system is its rigorous multi-level evaluation process, which progresses from local to national levels and ensures transparency, objectivity, and fairness. Products are assessed based on a broad range of criteria, including production development capacity, market responsiveness, economic, technical, social and environmental performance, cultural and aesthetic value, and export potential.As Vietnam continues to promote green growth, innovation, and digital transformation, the RISEP program is expected to remain an important extension of industrial promotion activities, contributing to the discovery, promotion, and advancement of Vietnamese rural industrial products.<blockquote>To enable national industrial promotion programs to serve as an effective catalyst for rural industrial products, the Prime Minister issued Decree No. 235/2025/ND-CP in 2025, amending and supplementing several provisions of Decree No. 45/2012/ND-CP on industrial promotion. Photo: Thanh Minh.The implementation of power projects, including both power generation and transmission projects, under the revised Power Development Plan VIII and its implementation plan has been identified by the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade as an urgent priority task. The objective is to bring projects into operation as quickly as possible to ensure adequate electricity supply for socio-economic development and people's daily needs during the upcoming period of accelerated growth, while supporting the goal of achieving double-digit economic growth.In recent years, the Government, the Prime Minister and the Standing Government have issued numerous directives and official dispatches aimed at ensuring sufficient electricity supply for production, business activities and daily life. The Prime Minister has personally inspected projects, urged progress and resolved difficulties to accelerate the implementation of power generation and transmission projects. Photo: Thanh Minh.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;However, the implementation of power generation and transmission projects under the revised Power Development Plan VIII continues to face various obstacles related to mechanisms, policies and investment procedures, creating potential risks of power shortages in the future if timely and decisive measures are not taken.Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long said that the ministry has established 14 working delegations to help remove obstacles facing power projects under the revised Power Development Plan VIII in provinces and cities nationwide. The ministry has also issued numerous documents requesting local authorities to implement projects and resolve bottlenecks, including reporting difficulties arising from both legal regulations and implementation processes.In addition, to implement Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW dated August 20, 2025, issued by the Politburo on ensuring national energy security through 2030 with a vision to 2045, the ministry advised the Government in submitting to the National Assembly Resolution No. 253/2025/QH15 on mechanisms and policies for national energy development during the 2026-2030 period. The resolution is intended to address institutional bottlenecks that have hindered development in recent years, accelerate power projects and ensure energy security during the 2026-2030 period.To effectively implement Resolution No. 253/2025/QH15, the ministry has also issued three documents requesting local authorities to review and prepare proposals for updating and adjusting power projects in their localities.Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long urged Ho Chi Minh City to continue working closely with the ministry in reviewing, advising on and proposing the formulation or amendment of legal documents related to the electricity sector to facilitate investment in power projects in line with practical requirements. Today, the landscape has changed. Green standards, traceability, supply chain management, smart logistics and digital transformation have become critical factors determining participation in regional value chains.This helps explain why Vietnam’s trade promotion strategy in ASEAN is undergoing significant changes. Rather than focusing solely on trade matchmaking activities, promotion programs are increasingly aimed at enhancing business competitiveness, helping enterprises meet evolving market standards and integrating more deeply into regional production and distribution ecosystems.According to Vu Ba Phu, Thailand is not only a major consumer market but also an important logistics and distribution hub within global supply chains. Vietnam exports large volumes of electronic components and industrial parts to Thailand while importing computers, fully built automobiles and various industrial products from the country. Photo: Le SonRegarding the power grid, Dak Lak has been planned in a synchronized manner with nine 500kV substations, 13 500kV transmission lines, 26 220kV substations, 40 220kV transmission lines, and multiple 110kV substations and transmission lines to evacuate capacity from power generation projects. To date, the province has approved investment policy for 15 power generation projects with a total capacity of 892.5MW, mainly wind and solar power projects. Among them, four wind power projects: Cu Ne 1, Cu Ne 2, Krong Buk 1 and Krong Buk 2, with a combined capacity of 200MW have basically completed construction and are expected to be put into operation in 2026. Many of these contain breakthrough provisions, such as stronger decentralization to localities, flexible forms of investor selection, and direct contractor appointment for urgent and key energy projects. However, while mechanisms are already in place, the key issue now lies in implementation, requiring proactiveness, determination and a high sense of responsibility from local authorities.According to the Deputy Minister, for projects already included in the planning, localities need to quickly complete investment procedures, site clearance and investor selection in accordance with legal regulations, avoiding prolonged delays that could result in lost development opportunities. Adjusting project timelines is necessary and normal, but this must be based on a realistic assessment of investors’ capacity, commitments and implementation ability to ensure the feasibility and overall effectiveness of the planning.Regarding the transmission system, the Deputy Minister requested relevant units, particularly Vietnam Electricity and the National Power Transmission Corporation, to maximize resources and absolutely avoid delays in substation and transmission line projects. This is a key factor determining the ability to evacuate capacity from renewable energy projects; delays would lead to waste of social resources and undermine investor confidence.Regarding offshore wind power development, Nguyen Hoang Long said that under current regulations, projects in the 2025 - 2030 period with a total capacity of around 6,000MW fall under the authority of the Prime Minister for investment policy approval, while projects in the 2031 - 2035 period with a scale of around 11,300MW will be decentralized to provincial-level People’s Committees where connection points are located. This places a requirement on localities to proactively prepare infrastructure, land resources, site clearance and significantly improve the investment environment if they wish to attract large-scale projects.The Deputy Minister cited practical examples, saying that coastal localities such as Quang Ninh and Hai Phong are competing vigorously to attract offshore wind power projects, even offering special support mechanisms. Therefore, localities that move quickly, act decisively and prepare well will have a significant advantage in attracting strategic investors.According to the Deputy Minister, an offshore wind power project, once implemented, is not simply a power project but can also lead to the formation of an entire economic ecosystem, including industrial parks, data centers, logistics, technical services and even high-tech agriculture. This is an important driver for regional economic growth and sustainable economic restructuring.Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long affirmed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to accompany localities, promptly addressing difficulties and obstacles within its authority, while reporting issues beyond its authority to the Government. This international response includes rapid risk assessments, providing technical guidance to Member States, and directly coordinating the complex disembarkation and repatriation of passengers in Tenerife under strict health protocols.Dr Jennifer Horton stressed that preventing hantavirus infection depends primarily on reducing contacts between people and rodents.Effective measures include: keeping homes and workplaces clean; sealing openings that allow rodents to enter buildings; storing food securely; using safe cleaning practices in areas contaminated by rodents; avoiding dry sweeping or vacuuming rodent droppings; dampening of contaminated areas before cleaning; strengthening hand hygiene practices.As with any infectious disease outbreak, when cases are suspected, early identification and isolation of cases, monitoring of close contacts, and application of standard infection prevention measures are important to limit further spread, the WHO Acting Representative finalized./.
