A monitoring and management platform for environmental protectionIn the context of the government issuing the Development Program for the Environmental Industry (EI) sector for the 2025 - 2030 period, environmental protection in the mining sector is shifting from impact control to becoming a strategic pillar of development. The program sets the goal of developing domestic technologies, equipment, and products in the EI sector, promoting circular economy and environmental protection, with digital transformation identified as one of the essential tools.At the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industrial Group (TKV), this orientation has been implemented through a series of coordinated action programs. As early as the end of 2024, the Group issued resolutions, directives, and action plans related to environmental protection and sustainable development, notably Resolution No.212-NQ/DU and Action Program No.02/CTr-TKV. Digital transformation enables effective monitoring of waste, operation of wastewater and air treatment plants, and forecasting risks before incidents occur.”<figure class="image"><img src="https://img-ven.congthuong.vn/resize/th/upload/2026/04/09/screenshot-2026-04-09-151114-15323707.png" alt="Nguyen Manh Chuyen, Deputy Head of TKV’s Environmental Division."></figure>Nguyen Manh Chuyen, Deputy Head of TKV’s Environmental Division.TKV has implemented Plan No.162/KH-TKV and the Digital Transformation Scheme under Decision No.243/QD-TKV, focusing on building big data platforms and applying Industry 4.0 technologies to production management. Environmental management software and databases have been perfected, along with training sessions for main production units starting April 2025, ensuring regular updates of environmental data to serve management and administration.&nbsp;Meteorological monitoring stations have been installed at critical areas and connected to rainfall monitoring software for disaster prevention. A disaster risk alert software was put into operation from September 2025. TKV’s Environmental Monitoring Data Management Centre has been upgraded and automatically connected across the Group to enhance monitoring efficiency at production sites.In operation, TKV maintains 48 mine wastewater treatment stations, 39 industrial wastewater treatment stations, and 80 domestic wastewater treatment stations, ensuring that discharged water meets quality standards. Dust control is implemented extensively through over 125 misting devices and 167 specialized watering vehicles, while environmental sanitation is maintained on more than 30km of transport roads, especially near residential areas and spoil sites. TKV has completed all 44 comprehensive environmental protection plans at major production areas, achieving 100% of the target, demonstrating a clear shift from isolated treatment to total, coordinated spatial management.Alongside wastewater, solid waste, and air pollution management, TKV actively carries out environmental restoration, with planted areas in 2025 reaching approximately 100.2% of the plan, raising the total area to around 2,480ha, reflecting a strong link between extraction and environmental restoration. Chuyen emphasized: “Implementing digital transformation in environmental monitoring not only helps us manage data in a timely manner but also provides a solid basis for planning risk prevention and enhancing disaster response capacity. This marks a shift from reactive to proactive thinking, serving as a pillar in TKV’s sustainable development strategy.”Towards sustainable development and circular economyThe 2025 - 2030 EI Development Program targets that by 2030, Vietnam will master 70 - 80% of wastewater treatment technologies, 60 - 70% of air treatment technologies, 50 - 60% of solid and hazardous waste treatment industries, and meet 60 - 70% of domestic sorting and recycling needs. TKV actively participates in these tasks, not only by applying digital technologies but also by developing the EI ecosystem, forming enterprises that provide operation, maintenance, and repair services for waste treatment facilities meeting international standards, aiming at exporting competitive EI technologies and equipment.<figure class="image"><img src="https://img-ven.congthuong.vn/resize/th/upload/2026/04/09/phun-suong-cao-ap-di-dong-5-15272462.JPG" alt="TKV integrates digital transformation to enhance environmental management and promote sustainable mining practices. Photo: Thu Huong.TKV strengthens the legal framework by participating in policy development, reviewing the list of technologies, equipment, and EI products, and studying government decrees on the EI sector. The Group also builds the EI goods market through domestic enterprise support, expanding market demand via orders and direct contracting, developing capacity in supplying EI equipment, technology, and products, and organizing trade promotion and foreign investment attraction.In innovation and digital transformation, TKV supports enterprises in applying international management systems, CAD/CAM, mechatronic equipment, and intelligent control systems. The Group develops biosensor products and biotechnological production lines serving the EI sector, while promoting digital application across all stages of operation and environmental monitoring.&nbsp;Nguyen Manh Chuyen affirmed: “In 2026, we will continue implementing digital transformation linked to real-time environmental management. The alert, monitoring, and command system will enable TKV to prevent incidents at the source, minimize environmental impacts, and integrate across the entire production value chain. Digital transformation is no longer a supporting tool but a pillar of sustainable development strategy.”In addition, TKV focuses on human resource development by building a database of EI sector workforce requirements and organizing training sessions to improve the capacity of state management officials and enterprise technicians. The Group also promotes communication by establishing EI information portals, public campaigns, competitions to raise awareness of EI, and disseminating research results and new technologies.These synchronized efforts in policy, management, operation, training and communication are helping TKV integrate environmental protection into production practice. As an official member, the nation can contribute more substantively to the development of the international legal framework in cyberspace.The Ha Noi Convention provides an important international legal basis for Viet Nam to enhance the effectiveness of preventing, detecting, investigating, and handling cybercrime, meeting the requirements of safeguarding national security and social order in the context of digital transformation and deep international integration.It also serves as a key driver for improving the domestic legal system, ensuring compatibility with international standards and obligations, while strengthening institutional, technical, and human resource capacities in combating cybercrime.The Convention consists of nine chapters and 68 articles, establishing a comprehensive international legal framework for cooperation in preventing and combating cybercrime.Qatar was the first country to ratify the convention which will enter into force once 40 countries become parties./.

From March 16 to 18, the 12th Meeting of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement (RJC 12) took place in Wellington, New Zealand, with the participation of representatives from 10 ASEAN Member States and 5 partner countries: China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose by 10 percent in the first two months, compared to 7.5 percent in the same period last year. Agricultural production remained stable, meeting increased consumption demand during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.Domestic consumption continued to improve, with total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues increasing by 8 percent. Tourism rebounded strongly as Viet Nam welcomed 4.7 million international visitors, up 18 percent year-on-year.Notably, the S&amp;P Global Viet Nam Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index reached 54.3 points in February, signaling expansion in manufacturing and business activities for eight consecutive months since July 2025.&nbsp;State budget revenue in the first two months reached VND 601.3 trillion (US$22.89 billion), equal to 23.8 percent of the annual estimate and up 13.1 percent year-on-year. The increase came despite tax, fee and charge reductions and extensions totaling approximately VND 30.2 trillion, reflecting improved economic activity and effective revenue management.Total import-export turnover hit US$155.7 billion, marking a 22.2 percent year-on-year increase. Exports rose by 18.3 percent, while imports climbed by 26.3 percent. The trade deficit stood at US$2.98 billion, largely due to increased imports of production materials, which reached US$74.7 billion and accounted for 94.1 percent of total imports—indicating strong demand for inputs to support manufacturing and export activities.Development investment continued to deliver positive outcomes. Public investment disbursement was estimated at 5.6 percent of the annual plan in the first two months, with the absolute amount rising by VND 10.9 trillion compared to the same period last year.Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows also improved. Newly registered FDI totaled over US$3.5 billion, up 61.5 percent year-on-year, while disbursed FDI reached US$3.2 billion, an increase of 8.8 percent.&nbsp;Business activity showed renewed dynamism, with nearly 64,500 enterprises entering or re-entering the market in the first two months—up 29.4 percent year-on-year. The surge reflects improving business confidence and supportive policy measures.Tet gifts were provided to 6.2 million beneficiaries, with total funding exceeding VND 3.7 trillion. Nearly 15,300 tons of rice were distributed to support disadvantaged households. Exports to the United States stagnate, EU declines sharplyAccording to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s canned tuna export turnover in 2025 reached over USD 275 million, down 8% compared to 2024. Vietnamese canned tuna products were present in around 80 markets; however, the 2025 landscape shows clear divergence: the United States maintained stability, the EU saw a sharp decline, while several Middle East - North Africa markets accelerated.In the 2025 market structure, the United States remained the largest pillar, with export value slightly higher than in 2024, reaching over USD 190 million. In contrast, exports to the EU fell sharply by 22% to around USD 57 million. Several European markets recorded notable decreases, including Germany (down 27%), Finland (down 3%) and Romania (down 36%), reflecting competitive pressures and uneven recovery in consumer demand. However, 2025 witnessed significant fluctuations in skipjack tuna raw material prices - a factor directly affecting production costs and profit margins of canners.Given the highly competitive nature of canned products, volatility in raw material prices may force enterprises to continuously balance between maintaining market share and protecting margins, particularly for private label orders or long-term contracts.Opportunities to expand markets in 2026 amid rising policy risksThe Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) assessed that in 2026, prospects for Vietnam’s canned tuna exports still offer room for recovery, but will depend heavily on policy variables and compliance costs.The global canned tuna market is forecast to grow in the medium term, creating room for Vietnamese exporters to expand.“At present, the domestic raw material bottleneck has been eased, reducing pressure on processors, especially for products with stable input demand such as canned tuna. However, Vietnamese tuna still faces various policy risks in key markets,” a VASEP representative noted.According to VASEP, exports to the United States in 2026 are expected to encounter more challenges and may stagnate. From January 1, 2026, the Fisheries Service under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will require shipments to obtain a Certificate of Admissibility (COA) to qualify for export to the US market. The certification aims to verify species composition, harvesting methods and fishing locations of products not subject to import restrictions under the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).This requirement could increase the risk of customs delays or order disruptions if documentation and verification processes are not fully aligned. In addition, US reciprocal tariffs may further reduce the competitiveness of Vietnamese tuna products compared to rivals such as Thailand, Ecuador and Indonesia.VASEP believes that the global canned tuna market is projected to grow in the medium term, creating space for Vietnamese enterprises to broaden export markets.
